Disco Sorter

"Disco Sorter" – a VR game in which you sort apples to the rhythm of music.
Orcharding has never been an easy job. Workers in an apple sorting facility constantly have to deal with cold storage rooms, disgusting rotten apples, and monotonous fruit picking. It's time to wind up with it. Time for a little fun, let the party begin!

The development of the game began in late 2019 when my team at Digital Night Studio, a student game development club, decided to create a VR game. At that time, my friend Mikołaj and I were both 17 years old. When the COVID pandemic hit in 2020, we had ample time to complete the game and submit it to the ZTGK game development contest!

This is a standalone Meta Quest game. The main challenges we faced were:

  • Building rythm controller and combining rythm-based events with physics (the apples roll physically!)
  • Creating full level editor
  • Optimizing the game (as it’s standalone Meta Quest) while preserving neon and party style. Lots of interesting tricks were applied here.

The game was developed using Unity game engine.

I was young and stupid back then (now I’m only stupid). Forgive poor commit naming and rookie code.
